Government is set to support the Harare City Council with funds to ensure the repairing and rehabilitation of roads.
This was said by the Provincial Development Coordinator Tafadzwa Muguti during an interactive workshop between government and Council.
Muguti said Government is working with Council through the Provincial Roads Committee.
“We are determined to increase the budget for Harare so it can attend to more roads.
“Starting from next week we have organized training for city engineers through Zinara.
“We shall continuously be training councilors and management to avert effects of brain drain”
“I Implore the chairpersons of the newly formed Investment Committee and Business Committee to explore ways of luring investment.
“Investment climate should be the bedrock of our core strategy to revamp Harare.
“Political will is there to change Harare into a World Class City,” he said.
Harare has constantly complained about lack of resources to undertake projects such as road rehabilitation.
It also accuses the Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (ZINARA) of failing to provide the expected money.
However Zinara has defended itself.
In 2020 after the supplementary budget Zinara disbursed $39 million to the City of Harare, which was however garnished by Zimra due to an earlier debt.
