The Thokozani Khupe-led MDC-T was supposed to be the righteous political outfit maligned by populists but following the chaste dictates of the law.
It was supposed to operate at a level above the moral and legal atrophy of Chamisa’s supposedly wayward and reckless mob.
Alas Khupe’s party has itself decayed into a puny vindictive outfit of jilted and salty politicians plundering anything before they die out.
Here is why.
Khupe Knows She Has No Support
After getting a total of 45 000 voters in an election in which 4.8 million people voted its common sense that Khupe knows she isn’t the darling of many.
She will be some kind of crazy politician if she actually thinks otherwise.
The numbers are emphatic and clear, she literally does not have the political fanbase to sustain her ambitions. Thus all these moves amount to vindictive acts to expire not just alone but with those she feels are to blame.
She Isn’t Building Anything
The sum total of what the Supreme Court judgement has enabled the MDC-T has been to demolish the MDC Alliance.
One would have thought the party would take the opportunity of the ruling, notwithstanding how dubious, to rebuild itself and gain traction and support.
Alas all that they have done is recall and antagonise the opposition support base. Even the MDC-T Organising Secretary Abednico Bhebhe has criticised the behaviour.
The Criteria for Recalling Councilors is Subjective
At its most recent National Executive Committee (NEC) an MDC-T delegate questioned the criteria that is being used to recall Councilors and MP’s.
It’s a subjective and vindictive whipping rod to cower the other politicians into obeisance to the Khupe leadership with no regard for the opinion of the electorate.
Thus the recalls have become executive decisions on the plight of Councilors chosen by the voters.
The result is that voters have been disenfranchised and their vote rendered useless.
We Are Now the MDC Alliance
The announcement that the MDC-T will now be referred to as the MDC Alliance is the clearest signal that the party isn’t trying to build anything progressive.
The MDC Allinace is supposed to be either the “party” led by Nelson Chamisa or the coalition of opposition parties which include those led by Welshman Ncube, Tendai Biti etc.
The Khupe-led MDC -T does not have any of those partner parties on its side to warrant being an Alliance.
Thus it boggles the mind why they have chosen to take this route unless the agenda is only to sabotage and bring confusion in opposition circles.
Even Obert Gutu Went Away
Anyone who has followed the social media posts of former MDC spokesperson Obert Gutu will attest to the fact that the guy hates the Chamisa outfit.
After their split Gutu went with Khupe and constantly raved about the shortcomings of the Chamisa camp, tearing and attacking.
His feelings of hate were very palpable.
However even he has rejected the Khupe type of politics, resigning and going on to criticise the constant recalls of Councilors and MPs.
Gutu’s change is the starkest reflection of how Khupe’s politics has been reduced to a nihilistic rampage against anything and everything seeking to plunder and destroy with no positive agenda.
