A leaked memo from the Chitungwiza Council has revealed over 11 000 illegally built settlements which are likely to be demolished.
The targeted settlements include houses illegally built on wetlands, railway servitudes and sewer lines.
Illegal land allocation is rampant in Chitungwiza where houses and business premises have been built on some weird places.
At Zengeza 4 Shopping Centre, popularly known as Pagomba, the foundation of a shop was dug over Zesa cables and a sewer line.
The move is likely to stir controversy as happened late last year after Harare City Council demolished illegal houses in Budiriro.
