Some Kingsdale residents are questioning paying monies for their stands to property developer Maparahwe Properties alleging that he is a swindler who does not own the land.
They allege that the land was sold to government which then gave it to their cooperative.
The residents met with Norton legislator Temba Mliswa on Saturday over the issue where the differences arose.
Mliswa has been urging the residents to pay-up the US$5 per square metre charge which Maparahwe Properties, owned by ZANU PF legislator Cuthbert Mpame, was ordered to charge at an earlier court case.
“We may accuse Mpame of having illegally acquired the land here in Kingsdale but that is neither here or there, it was his own cleverness.
“The Kingsdale Residents Association failed to challenge that position of how he got to own the land at the initial court case and the issue has gone past that level because the Constitutional Court gave a ruling”, said Mliswa.
However some residents have questioned the arrangement saying Mpame did not own the land and should not feature in any payment arrangement.
“What we understand about the Kingsdale land is that the original farm owner, who had a sub-division permit, Neil had the farm taken by government which was supposed to compensate him.
“Government then gave the farm to our cooperative.
“Mpame does not feature anywhere in that arrangement, yes he was an agent for Neil, but government took over the farm so we don’t understand why we have to pay anything to him”, said one resident during the meeting.
In thinly veiled remarks aimed at their legislator some residents said there was too much corruption in Kingsdale as the matter was simple such that it should have been completed ages ago.
However, according to the people conmen are coming in and swindling them of their hard-earned money.
Mliswa however heaped all the blame on the ruling ZANU PF party which he said was the main cause for the confusion in Kingsdale.
“It’s your party that is to blame for all this.
“You should in fact be visiting Ziyambi Ziyambi (ZANU PF Mashonaland West Chairman) and seeking for answers from him, not me”.
“I’m only doing this for the sake of the innocent children here otherwise this isn’t even within the scope of my role as a legislator”, he said.
