Norton Ward 12 Councilor Laston Tachiona has been accused of distributing food assistance in a partisan manner by the local ZANU PF Youth leadership.
ZANU PF Youth League in Norton has since written to the local legislator Temba Mliswa to intervene in the matter.
According to their complaint, Tachiona has a case to answer over the allegations of, “distributing World Food Program alleviation scheme cards (groceries) on partisan basis.
“He is accused of sidelining Maridale residents of the relief grocery cards in favour of Garikai and its adjacent neighbourhood Kingsdale”, they say.
The youths, whose own party, ZANU PF has over the years been accused of the same practice in its endevour to win voters have accused Tachiona, who is an independent candidate, of being “an agent for anarchy under the guise of being an independent Councilor”.
Bizarrely the youths have gone on to accuse the Councilor of working to undermine the government.
“Tachiona, being an independent candidate is seen to be putting an agenda against the constitutionally elected ruling government by frustrating the majority of residents in Ward 12 thus harbouring a sinister motive”.
A huge number of people in Norton have been receiving food support from various non-governmental organisations such as WFP and Care as the economy continues struggling.
In an appeal for an additional $250 million to support emergency relief for millions of vulnerable people, the World Food Programme (WFP) said that by the end of the year, the number of food-insecure people in Zimbabwe, is expected to surge by almost 50 per cent, to 8.6 million.
