The Minister of Local Government July Moyo has accused politicians from across the political divide of indulging in illegal selling of stands.
In a statement on Sunday the Minister, who has himself been implicated in land deals, said they are working to bring to book all corrupt politicians in land deals.
Land Barons Using Mnangagwa’s Name
“It goes without saying that we have seen some politicians abusing their party regalia and positions invading land while name-dropping His Excellency (President Mnangagwa) and other high-ranking party officials as well as opposition parties,” said Minister Moyo.
“It is therefore our position as Government that all those politicians who are invading land and creating bogus cooperatives are criminals who deserve to be arrested and prosecuted for fraud, corruption and land invasions.
Moyo said, “authorities in Harare are working with security agencies to ensure that we arrest all those involved in land scams.
Land Developers Stealing
“Land developers who have failed to deliver their obligations of government contracts of developing and servicing land whilst selling stands and pocketing the funds for themselves will be subjected to similar laws of the land.”
The sentiments equating opposition politicians with ZANU land barons has however been dismissed by some opposition figures.
Legislator Prince Dubeko Sibanda said this is equalisation to taint the opposition.
Investigation have already how land barons with links to the ruling party have leveraged their connections to power to swindle thousands of desperate homeseekers.
The Uchena Land Report, delivered and mildewing thereafter, indicted many Zanu linked land barons.
Recently various Councilors and Town House management officials have been arrested over allegations of criminal cases involving stands.
Zimbabwe has over 1,3 million people on the housing list, creating a fertile ground for land barons to exploit the desperation and fleece citizens of their hard earned mone.
