The Special Anti-Corruption Unit(SACU) will soon be instituting investigations on illegal activities by some land barons in Chitungizwa, OpenCouncil Harare can reveal.
Information sourced by this publication has revealed some names of those being targeted by the institution operating under President’s Mnangagwa’s office.
There are some notable names as outlined below:
The documents obtained by this publication show that the former deputy mayor of Chitungwiza Dr Fraderick Mabamba sold over 3000 stands and some councillors are also the biggest beneficiaries of the land scam.
It is also alleged that Mabamba would also use his role as deputy mayor to regularise the stands for a fee.
“History has it that Dr Mabamba was once a deputy mayor at Chitungwiza Municipality and took advantage of his office to push for resolution to regularise his stands.
By this virtue most land barons had their agreements of sale signed by Dr Mabamba since he was the one with council resolution to have all his stands regularised.
“Dr Mabamba used to receive $300.00 as administration fee from the perpetrators,” states the documents.
ZANU PF Youth Members
Prominent former Zanu PF youth executive member Innocent Hamandishe alongside other ruling party youth members Mike Chinayi, Tongai Sande ,Darlington Mugoni and one Kadengu.
These allegedly sold 1 500 stands in St Mary’s Zengeza residential area.
Ward 23 V Chairman
The list also cites Norman Muchemwa and Reason Moyana.
They allegedly sold 171 stands in Unit A while Ward 23 vice chairman Martin Chimukuri illegally acquired 85 stands.
The well-known transport operator Bernard Chivhanga benefitted 700 residential stands in Zengeza 5 while Borniface Manyonganise got 624 stands in St Mary’s which were sold for US3 500 each.
Rtd Major Marufu
Retired Major T Marufu was illegally awared with 7 stands in Zengeza.
The list also has former Councillors who also benefitted from the stands scam.
The biggest beneficiary among them is former Zanu PF Councillor C.Mlambo who got 44 stands in Zengeza and 44 again in St Mary’s.
