Masvingo Mayor Collin Maboke, who is the third speaker at this year’s Mayor’s Forum, is most famous for his defying of party leader Nelson Chamisa.
The Mayor allegedly threw his hat in the ring to challenge preferred mayoral candidate Godfrey Kurauone and went on to win the post.
Maboke vowed to continue with his duties at Town House despite being ordered to step down by the MDC Alliance party leader.
An advocate by profession, he was also accused of conniving with Zanu-PF to ensure the ruling party Ward 6 Cllr Cde Wellington Mahwende was voted deputy mayor, despite Zanu-PF controlling only three wards of the local authority’s 10.
Since then he has been suspended 3 times for defying party directives.
Maboke’s Masvingo has not been sparred the challenges facing many local authorities.
Water remains a problem in the city with the recent rise water water barons selling water to residents providing a new problematic front.
The state of roads and lack of garbage collection are all current challenges bedevilling his city.
The Mayor’s Forum at the Hub Unconference will provide a chance for an in-depth look at the reasons for such a deplorable state of service delivery.
And some answers in how he has survived fighting Chamisa.
