Harare Minister Oliver Chidawu has been accused by Temba Mliswa of aiding and supporting Billy Rautenbach in his plans to illegally disposses Aspindale residents of their stands in Kambuzuma.
Mliswa, who has been defending the embattled residents against Rautenbach in a clash that involves some residents cooperatives and Rautenbach’s property developing company, said Chidawu is a land baron himself.
“I’m reliably informed people continue being victimised in Aspindale. Upon meeting with President Mnangagwa, Police Zimbabwe were instructed in no uncertain terms should the people there be moved. This was emphasised by Officer Commanding Harare, Comm. Dumbura in his address to residents.
“The Govt is clear that Billy doesn’t have documents to prove ownership. It was irrefutably a Rothmans’ property procedurally handed over to Govt. 2 court processes went on to support the aggrieved residents. Both the Pesident & VP reiterated the residents due rights to claim
Mliswa added that, “It is common knowledge Billy captures people. Hon. O. Chidawu, alleged land baron, is believed to be ensnared. He’s one such person afforded a position without merit. His lack of support for President Mnangagwa post appointment is glaring.
“Stark abuse of office was committed when CG Matanga deployed officers to Aspindale to intimidate, harass & assault the hapless residents. Where is SACU to investigate this? State resources were used to force police officers to engage in a personal matter without a court order.
Mliswa’s accusations follow the continued persecution of the residents by Rautenbach whose company is aiming to sell the stands in USD.
The cooperatives however argue that they were given offer letters for the land by government.
Previously ZRP forces have been deployed to the area where they have harassed and beaten residents showing resistance to Rautenbach’s plans.
