Background of Kuwadzana
Established in 1984. The place was a farm owned by Mr. Holland. City council developed the residential area and sold stands. Most of the residents who purchased these residential stands were civil servants and council workers. Most of these beneficiaries resided in surrounding areas such as Kambuzuma, Warren Park and Glen Norah. The other name for Kuwadzana is Parkridge. It is divided into seven sections that is 1-7. Later on, Kuwadzana Extension was added to the western side along Bulawayo Road. Kuwadzana Phase 3 falls under Kuwadzana.
Kuwadzana is divided into East and West for parliamentary seats. Crowborough, which has three phases, is part of Kuwadzana under Ward 37.
Kuwadzana made headlines in the early 90s when Kuwadzana 4 resident Benjamin Burombo a self-proclaimed traditional healer claimed to cure HIV AIDS.
Kuwadzana is located 15 kilometers to the west of the central Business District. It is located between warren park, Mufakose and Dzivarasekwa. It is between two major highways that is Bulawayo road and High Glen road.
One can access Kuwadzana via Samora Machel Avenue or Bulawayo Road avenue heading west from the CBD. High Glen road also leads to Kuwadzana from the southern part heading northwards.

The high-density suburb has one public clinic located in Kuwadzana 4.
Kuwadzana has one main police station at Kuwadzana 2 near the shopping area. There are sub mini stations in Kuwadzana 6 (Blue Base) and Kuwadzana Extension. When one commits a crime in areas not close to the main station, he or she is brought to a mini station then transferred to the main base in Kuwadzana 2. However, the main police station is located in a street among many houses.
A city of Harare fire department is located along High Glen Road adjacent to Kuwadzana 2.
Kuwadzana main shopping area is located in Kuwadzana 2. There are retail shops, surgeries, pharmacies and markets. Kuwadzana 1,3,4,5, 6 and Extension also has shopping places.
Kuwadzana has one public library which was officially opened in 2019. Its construction began in the year 2000.
Besides having produced soccer stars that include former Dynamos captain Ocean Mushure and Naison Muchekela, Kuwadzana has substandard football pitches. The whole residential area does not have modern facilities. There is no basketball, tennis, netball in ward 37 and other sporting facilities that can be used by the youths in developing their sporting careers. The area is serviced by a single basketball and netball court in Kuwadzana 6.

There are four fuel stations in Kuwadzana. -Kuwadzana 2 shops, Kuwadzana 6, Kuwadzana Extension and a recent one located in Kuwadzana 6.
The whole suburb has three public gardens. The first one is the roundabout in Kuwadzana 2 which is mainly used by students to study and refreshing site, Kuwadzana 4 park and Kuwadzana 6 mini Park. All these sites do not have a public toilet.
Kuwadzana has one small to medium enterprise industrial area in Kuwadzana 1. The place is home to welders, pavers and carpenters. It used to be a hive of activity before the destruction of the place during Murambatsvina (Clean-up) period. Many lost their jobs.
Challenges faced by Kuwadzana residents
Kuwadzana has not been spared from the water crisis experienced in Harare. Boreholes have been drilled by donors but they are not enough to service the whole suburb.
Litter is a huge problem as evidenced by roadside garbage dumping as a result of council’s failure to collect garbage in time. Kuwadzana has also recorded a rise in crime. Murder cases are on an increase. Potholes are a common site in the 36-year-old suburb.
