Chitungwiza Ward 3 Zanu PF Councilor John Matiyenga has been arrested on charges of kidnapping and assaulting a fellow party member of his political party identified as Dalgish Muti over a dispute.
The matter was brought before Chitungwiza resident magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka by Dalgish Muti who is the applicant in the matter.
The state represented by Mr Norman Koropi alleges that on 3 May, at around 11 am, Matiyenga went to Zengeza to pick up Muti under the guise that he wanted company to meet a certain girl called Ayama who stays in St Mary’s.
Along the way, Matiyenga, who moved from MDC to ZANU PF before the 2018 elections, suddenly changed route and Muti noticing that asked to be dropped off but the Councilor refused.
Despite Muti begging him to stop, Matiyenga allegedly sped on and dumped him in Unit N at a place with about 20 people Muti failed to identify.
At the place, Muti was assaulted by Matiyenga who accused him of insulting him on a WhatsApp group on how he is not abiding by party agreements.
It is also alleged that two men at the place also assisted him to assault Muti before they left the scene.
Muti reported the matter to the police leading to the arrest of Matiyenga.
Matiyenga who pleaded not guilty was recently granted $500 bail.
