Chitungwiza council has approved that by the end of February 2020 they should have one integrated payroll in a move aimed at stopping the leaking and revelations of packages for top management.
Currently the council has two separate payrolls for senior managers and another for junior employees.
Acting Town Clerk Dr Tonderai Kasu highlighted the issue saying the separation led to the unnecessary sensationalization of salary issues if leaked to the media.
“The problem that arises with the leakage of information about those management salaries is that once the members of the fourth estate get hold of the information they tend to sensationalize things”.
“They may not be a need to sensationalize as it would be a contractual obligation between employer and employee which is quite above board but when these things are leaked and sensationalised it brings the organization into disrepute,” he said.
He went on to say that having salaries leaked demoralises the top management.
“It will also tarnish the image of our senior managers, demoralise them, demotivate them and make it difficult for us to attract and retain highly skilled seasoned professionals as it makes them think if they come here they are going to undressed,” added Dr Kasu.
Recently suspended Human Resource Manager Mary Rashamira Mukonyora was getting a $7 500 salary, a bi-annual bonus that was 40% of her monthly take-home.
On top of that, she got a payment of fees for her children and all others under her guardianship and was given stands in Harare and Chitungwiza.
Suspended Town Clerk Dr Makunde was also revealed to be getting a hefty package together with unlimited fuel since February 2014 despite being suspended.
