Suspended Chitungwiza Town Clerk Dr George Makunde has been getting unlimited fuel per week since 2014 and could have prejudiced the municipality of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
This was revealed by the Acting Town Clerk Dr Tonderai Kasu during a Full Council meeting.
The agreement prejudiced the municipality of thousands of litres of fuel to which a financial figure cannot be noted as they were unlimited disbursements.
Addressing Council, Dr Kasu said Dr Makunde started receiving the unlimited fuel in 2014, as an improvement from the 340 litres he used to get.
“There was a time when Dr Makunde was getting 340 litres a week, then in February 2014 it was changed to unlimited and that is documented in a document signed by Dr Makunde and the then Mayor Councilor Phillip Mutoti,” he said.
A full council resolution has since been requested to revoke the portion which allowed Dr Makunde to get unlimited fuel.
He will now be getting 160 litres per week.
Speaking to other Councillors, Chitungwiza Mayor-Council Maiko urged councillors to thank Dr Kasu for the revelations.
“We should thank Dr Kasu for showing that he is not greedy, he came with it here although we had picked it prior that some people were getting unlimited fuel and they are still claiming to have arrears in fuel”.
Dr George Makunde, is suspended on allegations of gross incompetence with a disciplinary tribunal hearing his cases yet to reach a verdict.
