Beleagured Chitungwiza Town Clerk George Makunde has found himself under more fire after an audit revealed his illegal allocation of fuel to an undesignated female Council official.
According to the audit report seen by this publication, Makunde allocated 80 litres of fuel to the a human resources manager who was supposed to get only 40 litres weekly, something which has raised eyebrows as it has been going for years resulting in Council losing a lot of money
According to the report, the HR manager falls under grade 13, which makes her unfit to benefit from such fuel allocations.
“The Town Clerk approved the allocation of 80 litres of fuel per week to the HR manager, who by then was entitled to only 40 litres of fuel per week by virtue of her being grade 13,” revealed the audit report.
Town Clerk Makunde is already on suspension, and the new revelations from the audit report might as well open another can of worms.
Chitungwiza Residents Trust Director Diana Alice Kuvheya said issues in the audit report should be taken seriously, and people implicated in such scandals should be punished as well as made to pay back to the council what they clandestinely got.
“We call upon the responsible authorities to act on this issue. We cannot have people who milk the council but go unpunished. Issues in that audit report should not be taken lightly,” Kuvheya said.
