Harare Ward 16 Councillor Denford Ngadziore has called residents to use grey water as a means to save clean water.
In an interview with this publication Ngadziore said that it is important for residents to make use of grey water in order to save clean and purified water from the taps.
“ It is important to use grey water as a means of saving water, we have to try by all means to re-use the water we have used to wash, we can use that water to water our flowers , to use in our toilets in order to save clean water,”
Ngadziore’s sentiments were also supported by Chitungwiza Residents Association Director Diana Alice Kuvheya who said that it is important for residents to play their part in bringing solutions to our cities and towns rather being cry-babies.
“I think the idea which is being used by Councillor Ngadziore is a brilliant idea which we all need to unite and work towards better cities and towns in terms of water, water is life and we should preserve it” kuvheya said.
Kuvheya went on to say that at this juncture residents should not waste treated water by using it for watering flowers, lawns and vegetables.
“As Chitrest we encourage all residents to serve the remaining water, you cannot be seen watering flowers , lawns and vegetables with clean water from the taps, residents should learn to use clean water when doing laundry and washing dishes ,” added kuvheya.
Grey water is gently used water from bathroom sinks, showers, tubs, and washing machines.
It is not water that has come into contact with faeces, either from the toilet or from washing diapers.
The water may contain traces of dirt, food, grease, hair, and certain household cleaning products.
